Non-Native Python Snake Captured A Young Deer

The Timber Rattler, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Pygmy Rattler, Cottonmouth, Copperhead and Eastern Coral Snake. Each one of these snakes should never be handled and keep all pets and children from any contact with them. Only one of these species are aggressive the Cottonmouth and simply leaving them alone is best.

Some of the more common snakes we encounter would be the Black Racer, Eastern Hog Nose, Rat and King Snakes.

It is common knowledge that here in Florida we have ended up with a problem with non-native releases of snakes here in our state. Many non-native species have deliberately  been released into the Florida wilds by former pet owners. Florida’s hurricanes and tropical storms have also released non native species into the wild by damage to zoos, nature study centers and homes alike.

Two of the biggest fears we deal with on almost a daily basis are the fear of snakes and the fear of bats. Each of these animals culturally have gotten a bad rap for the last few thousands years of recorded traditions .

The fact is most snakes you will encounter will not be venomous or poisonous. Very few native snakes here in Florida are even aggressive and if you encounter a snake our best advice is to just leave the snake lie and it will surely slither away if left alone. Most snake bite victims are male 15-25 years of age and were bitten because they decided to handle a snake in the wild.
